Should I adopt a kitten when I have a 1.5 year old male cat?

I adopted a kitten that was very young from the Animal Shelter in February 2019. He was born to a feral mother and is an extreme scaredy cat! He is extremely playful but not cuddly with me. He does not hiss, but hides any time someone comes to the door. He is not very cuddly with me, but will climb into my bed and suckle on me if I wear a fuzzy robe. He will rub against my leg only when hungry. He'll come sit by me, but doesn't like me to pet him.

I live alone and really wanted a cuddly cat. I am thinking of adopting a Rag Doll kitten (female), so that I can have a lap cat like I always wanted. I'm also hoping if I introduce them correctly, this might help my current cat break out of his shell? I definitely don't want this to negatively impact my current cat for the long-term. My goal is that the new addition would be good for both of us.

TLDR; would it be ok to add a Rag Doll kitten (known as cuddly breed) when I already have a very scared but very playful 1.5 year old cat?

Thank you!
