Found a baby red rated slider (turtle) on the road next to his crushed mother :( How to care for it?

I live in North Carolina. I don’t have a cage for the turtle so he’s in a small plastic tub. I put some very small bits of carrots and greens in the cage. (It doesn’t seem that he’s eaten much but he is tiny.) Will it be ok if I leave him in that plastic container outside until I have an actual tank? Will the water get too cold? What should I put in the plastic tub? Need some advice, I don’t want to hurt him :(
