I already have a dog and a cat and I just took in a stray dog. What do I have to do and expect in the first day/week/month?

My dog K, is a male, neutered, almost 5 year old mutt, my cat G is female, neutered, 4 years old. The new stray N seems to be a puppy.

I found N outside while walking K. I walked them both together home and they sniffed each other. When we got home K was a bit "dominant" for lack of a better word, but N backed down and acknowledged that K was the dog of the house. Neither dog seems to be aggressive towards the other.

The cat G went to see what was going on, N looked at her uninterested and the cat did that arch thing they do but didn't hiss, so a success?

I still intend to set N for adoption, but in the meantime, I'll keep him. What do I need to do so K knows he's not being replaced or that he's not stressed?

My main concern right now is that, although K lives mostly inside, he has access to the small backyard so he can lay outside or pee or whatever. Right now, N is outside, the door is closed so they are separated while I take him to the vet and he's house trained. I would like that eventually both dogs can come and go inside/outside as needed as K does now.

All advice is welcome. I have no idea where to start to make sure they get along for the long term, although I'm still looking to have it adopted, with the quarantine I'm not sure when that will be.

Thank you!!
