Hey everyone. Right now I'm in NYC and not in a great place financially. If I have to go to the vet I will, right now I'm not sure I should?
I noticed a tick on my dog a week ago. I have those droplets you put on her spine for ticks and made sure to give her some, and removed the tick carefully. I called the vet and asked if I should get her blood tested, if I should be concerned, because it seemed pretty burrowed in there. They said it wouldn't show up in bloodwork for a month anyway, but to take her if she was acting any different.
Then, she burrowed into some bushes/got into something outside recently- I'm not sure what exactly, my boyfriend was there, not me. She has a very small cut on her back- I think it was from trying to chase a mouse or small animal under an old, janky car.
Now, for the past few days, her skin sort of twitches when I pet her in a certain spot. Not on the cut, but a few inches below it, on her back. It hasn't happened before, and she doesn't act like she's in pain, no flinching, yelping, backing away from me, nothing. But it's still so odd to me, her doing this kind of shuddering response in that one spot. It's not where the tick was, and it's not where the small cut is.
I put a medical cream on the cut, it's healing nicely and again, it's super small. So then what the hell's happening? Should I take her to the vet right away?
