So I got this kitten via informal adoption yesterday. It was a long day trying to get him adjusted and to trust me, but by the end of the day he liked me. He was so well behaved yesterday and I was both relieved and surprised.
However, today is a completely different story. I seriously need some advice/help because I’m at a loss.
Also, I would like to go on record saying this my first cat, I grew around dogs and this is a lot different than what I’m used to.
So it started around 5pm, when I decide to take a quick nap. He tried to cuddle up with me but I kept putting him in this makeshift bed I made for him. I made sure it was right next to my bed and I put my Amazon Echo in there to play soothing music to sleep. I even tried covering it with a blanket like someone suggested but that made him mad so I stopped. I understand after the 3rd time he got out that he didn’t like it so I let him roam free, and waited for him to come to bed like he usually did.
Instead, he bolted under the bed and didn’t come out for 3 hours
One string and can of tuna later he came out, and started rolling around on his back. I thought he was playing but got aggressive and than went back to his usual self.
Than he kept running back under the bed and started purring. I’m at a loss with the purring, I’ve read that when he’s purring while near me that means he feels safe? I’ve read it in a few place but haven’t been able to confirm.
So with him acting weird, I decided to take him downstairs so he could stretch his legs. He starts roaming around as he usually does, but started meowing everywhere he went. He eventually stopped and sat himself down on the couch. A few minutes later, my mom notices a puddle and it turns out he peed. This is weird because since I brought him home he’s used the litter box.
I go to clean it up and when I turn around he’s gone. I hear his meowing in the dinning roam and I don’t see him. I turn on my camera light and a few seconds later, I see him scaling up the back of the chair. Our dining room chairs are made of fabric so I’m not surprised he was able to climb the back. He ended up at the top of the chair and meowed right at me.
I picked him and took him upstairs, and he just kept looking at me a meowing at me.
So now we’re upstairs and he’s purring non stop, it’s not even near me he’s just walking around doing it.
Last thing, a few seconds ago I saw him biting and licking at his paws. I heard he’s trying to take out his kitten nails, but is this something else I should be worried about.
Also I forgot to mention, he will jump at and use his front paws to grab at things on the floor that aren’t there.
I know some of these are normal cat behaviors but some have me worried. Please I need any and all help I can get!
