My dog keeps gagging and I don’t know why??

Well “i don’t know why” could rather be translated to “should I be more worried than I already am” since I have an inkling on what it could be?

Basically he’ll start a couple huffs before making a loud gag, but I noticed just before, after gagging a few times in the last hour, that there’s a wheezy kinda sound? It’s not as prominent, you can just barely hear it, but it’s still there. I’m just curious as to if that’s just a dry throat from the gagging

He does lick his paws a lot though- we’re trying to get him to lessen and/or stop doing it (it’s gotten better) -and I’m assuming his gagging is from fur in his throat, but i don’t know.

I regret going to google for the possible answer- I keep forgetting that google will tell you you’re dying as an answer to why you’re sneezing too much

Any thoughts? Or is it normal, given his circumstances? I wanna try and help him alleviate it a bit, if I’m able to! I give him excess amounts of water already, but I wanna try and do more for him!
