Tilted windows and cats

Hi all,

I have two foster cats and windows that tilt open. I'd like to leave the windows open for them when I am away, as our house can get quite stuffy. It also helps keep kitty smell at bay. However, I worry that they would get stuck.

The windows are about 5ft tall, and the window crack is about 4 inches wide at the top. The parts that I think they could reach is about 2 inches wide.

Should I worry that they can escape? If so, do you have any suggestions for ways to protect them? I've seem some things you can buy for your windows, but they look like they would make it easier for a cat to escape.
