Will my outdoor cat be happy indoors?

Hi, I've had George for 6 years, he's around 12 now. He's always gone outside. I moved to a new place in December and he's slowly been exploring the garden. I thought everything was good but last night I found him out on the busy road in front of my house. Obviously this freaked me out, in the previous house I had no issues with him and the road, he seemed to know it was dangerous and kept clear.

Now I'm considering making him a semi-indoors cat and only letting him out on a leash. He's been on a leash before when I moved in and doesn't seem to mind it too much.

I wonder if you could tell me if you think my place is suitable to make him happy being indoors mostly....

its just me and him, its a very quiet place, bright with big windows for him to look out of. a few places up high, a few places tucked away. obviously, the bed, his bed, sofa, chair. the rooms get alot of sun. he has a big litter tray that he uses regularly anyway. and ill play with him regularly and take him out a few times a day.

what do you guys think? thanks
