My ~7 month old cat keeps scratching door frames. I understand this isn't too uncommon so there are quite a few tips online that I've found but nothing has worked. I really don't know what else to try to stop the behaviour?
She has scratching posts and horizontal scratchers; I've even tried putting a scratcher near the door frame a la Jackson Galaxy lmao. She contorts her body around the post to scratch the door frame.
I put double sided tape on the frames and it worked for a little while... but then she decided to scratch the tape off and eat it instead.
I redirected her with toys and played until she was worn out. She went back to the door door frames with (somehow) renewed vigour.
I kept moving her from the door frame to another spot in the room. She ran back straight away as if she had no other choice.
I clapped loudly. She looked at me. While continuing to scratch.
I tried spraying her with water. I know people don't like that but it was honestly a last resort. In any case, she stood there until the stream of water ended, licked herself once and then went right back to scratching.
What else can I try?
