I’ve wanted a cat for such a long time, but I’m allergic. I really want to adopt one especially now in quarantine because I can give them all my time and I got approved to be able to have an emotional support animal at school, so I’d be able to take them with me which was one of my biggest concerns. Like I said I have allergies to cats, but I’ve slept over at friends houses (for days) who have cats with little to no issues, so this makes me believe that I’ve gained a bit of a tolerance when I’m around them a lot. I take Allegra every day so I hope this would be strong enough, but if there’s anything else people with cats and allergies suggest for having one, I’d also just like to know how you manage, anything you take when things get itchy, cleaning, etc. My mom is also allergic but she had cats all her life and the allergy developed when she was older. I’m more concerned with her, I don’t want her to get sick especially in quarantine. Please let me know your experiences/if you have any tips! I know people say don’t keep the cat in your room but honestly that’s not an option for me. My dogs sleep at the end of my bed and I’m not leaving the kitty outside my room if it wants to sleep with me. Most of the cat toys (tree, litter box, bed) would be in my part of the house too, as my room is a bit withdrawn from everyone else’s because it’s the garage turned bedroom. Also looking for a specific breed is not an option because we don’t do breeders in this house, shelters only. Experiences would be greatly appreciated!
