So please don’t be too harsh on me, my cat was acting off for a few days. But she was eating and drinking just fine, as well as going to the bathroom. She was still getting around okay but just wasn’t quite herself. We woke up Saturday morning and noticed she was limping, she’s a jumper so we thought maybe she’d jumped wrong off of a shelf and had a sore foot or something. Upon further inspection, I realized she had an abscess! (Likely caused by a bug bite) Just me flipping her over to see it, inadvertently caused it to burst open. We got the vet to squeeze her in, despite being booked full. It was basically fully drained by the time we got there, but they shaved the area and cleaned it and gave her a long-acting antibiotic shot. I was surprised they didn’t say she needed a cone but I suggested it and the vet agreed it was a good idea. So she’s been mostly isolated, not allowed to move around too much, as per the vets suggestion, since last weekend. The wound had finally closed over yesterday, and hadn’t drained at all in days, so we took her cone off as a trial run. Within 4-5 minutes she’d fully reopened it and pulled hair out on the back of her leg. The wound looks clean, and not infected, just irritated and the scab is gone so now it’s open and exposed. We immediately put the cone back on her and now she’s extremely agitated and uncomfortable and likely in some pain. I plan on calling the vet as soon as they open in the morning and see about bringing her back in, I guess I’m trying to convince myself it’s not necessary to drive her to the city nearest us and take her to a 24 hour vet...I feel so guilty, I thought we were on track and now we’re back at square 1! What do I do?! 🥺
