I was going to post this in r/cats but I don't have enough Karma (I created an account a long time ago but didn't use it for a while). Basically my cat is female, 14 years old. She is in the early stages of kidney disease, and the vet wants me to put her on a low-protein diet to decrease her sodium and phosphorous intake. My cat is an extremely picky eater and she has never eaten wet food. I have tried every brand and method you can think of, but she will not touch it. Currently I am feeding her Freshpet moisture rich tender chicken recipe. This is a fresh kibble that she really enjoys, and I have been giving it to her in the hopes that the increased moisture content will help with her hydration. However, the vet recommends a prescription low-protein food. Knowing my cat, she will not eat any of the fancy prescription wet food, and it is my understanding that dry kibble is not good for cats with kidney problems because of its low moisture content. Can anyone help me with this? I love my cat to death, she is my best friend, and I want her to be healthy and comfortable for as long as possible. I am willing to make homemade fresh food if approved by the vet, but I really don't know where to start with the ingredients or nutrition ratios. If anyone has any brand recommendations or recipes, I would really appreciate it!
