How to deal with loss of cat.

My cat has leukemia and I plan to put him down this Saturday (today is Thursday). I can’t afford any medical expenses I can barely afford to put him down. I’ve had this cat ever since I was homeless, he stuck with me through it all. I was homeless as a teenager and I avoided shelters simply because I couldn’t take him with me, he would stay by my side and never leave even without a leash which is extremely surprising for a cat. He followed me everywhere I went and became my support system when I had no one. I fed him before I fed myself, it’s safe to say this cat is my life. I’m not sure how to cope with his illness or the fact that he will be gone by Saturday. Have you ever felt so hurt that you get this choking feeling in your throat and you feel sick to your stomach? That’s me right now just thinking about putting him down Saturday. Please somebody help me find a way to accept his death because I literally feel like I’ve lost the only thing that is important to me. I’m willing to live in the streets forever just to keep my cat healthy.
