Is a second cat "the solution" or a potential disaster?

Our indoor-only 1.5yr male cat needs more interaction than we are able to provide while working at home. He is constantly begging to play. He has so much energy that he has started to make a habit of biting us (softly) when we don't play enough.

We are considering getting him a second cat to play with and give him an increased level of interaction, but we live in a 1000 sq.ft. apartment.

Would we be getting ourselves into potentially twice the trouble, or does a second cat seem like a good solution to our situation?

Is a second cat even the right solution, or should we be doing / considering something else?

I'm not sure what other information to provide, but I will respond to any questions.

Thank you 🤓 We want to find how to make our cat happy and content.
