My mom found this cat on the side of the road that was mildly hurt, a scab on his paw, the flesh peeling off of another paw and he's pretty shy. I'm trying to get him to open up to me, but he doesn't seem to want to approach me. We have shut all the doors in our house, so that he is confined to the kitchen and living room to encourage interaction with the family. Is this a good idea, Or a bad idea? We also own a medium sized dog that is very curious of the cat, and is probably more afraid of our cats then the cat is of him. We also have a female cat, (who looks just like this male cat, only smaller and younger) but she really doesn't like the new cat that much, and I'm not sure why? She meows deeply, and tries to look bigger than him every time she sees him, and this seems to scare him off a lot of the time. What should I do to make him open up to me more? Since typing this, I've been able to sit next to him, and pet him, so he might open up a little more, but we can't keep him. How should we go about getting him back to his owners while ensuring they aren't lying about owning him, and that they aren't bad people who hurt him? I hate the thought of a nice family missing their cat, but I would hate it even more if I gave this cat back to it's owners, only for it to continue to be abused.
