Please please please help me. We’ve read the blogs, the books, we watched the videos we can’t execute the solutions though.
Our cat has developed an attention seeking habit in the night. He has as much stimulation we can provide, mounted dangling toys, floor toys, puzzle feeders. All of which are on a rotation to keep them interesting. He also has a house mate that he loves and plays with well. Despite all this he is still seeking attention in the night and unfortunately he has found our kryptonite and we HAVE to give him attention when he does it. He attacks our doors. We live in an apartment and I don’t want to pay to fix any more damage than I have to. He RIPS CHUNKS off our doors. He digs his claws in and takes out chunks at 3:30 am. We’ve tried tape and foil on the doors. He rips them off and tries to eat them, so that’s not an option. We’ve tried bitter sprays on the door, doesn’t bother him.
We even tried just leaning into the damage but he doesn’t stop scratching. All the websites and vlogs say that they’ll get bored eventually and stop scratching if you ignore it. I timed it, he scratched the door for 4 hours straight once no pauses or interruptions.
We cannot ignore that to train it out. Please god help me I have no idea how to stop him. My fiancée and I can’t sleep at night, it’s affecting our work and our relationship. I love this cat with my whole heart but I’m gonna go into a blind rage and fucking kill him if I am sleep deprived much longer.
