Ok so about 3 weeks ago I adopted my first cat, a 2 year old all black female named Sky. When I got her I was told she didn't like men due to her previous owners bf being verbally abusive and threatening.
As a man myself, I figured I had my work cut out for me, and not gonna lie, the first week was brutal. Sky hissed all the time and swiped at me with her claws if I got too close.
Things got better though and a couple days ago she basically started following me everywhere, to the point shed jump in the shower with me (briefly till she realized that meant water) and was basically always between my feet if I walked anywhere in my apartment.
And then 3 hours ago, I was on the phone and not paying attention, and sat down in my black office chair...or at least that's what I meant to do.
Instead I sat on Sky, who I didn't see on the chair cause they are the same color. And for like a second or two till I figured it out. I'm a big man too, about 215lbs. So it was alot of weight.
For her part she made a noise that sounded something like a deflating balloon or whoopie cushion and bolted to the bedroom when I shifted my weight off her.
I let her go, to clam down. Figured if she was able to run nothing was broken.
When she came back out a few minutes later I gave her some treats as an apology, and to check if she would eat them. Which she did.
As the night progressed I also saw her drink, jump, climb and we played with her wand toy, and she jumped and flipped trying to catch it, all as normal. So I figured she was ok.
The only real difference was she stayed well on the other side of the room from me except for playtime, like she did her first week with me.
Except once, where she made a point of jumping on my desk, walking directly in front of me, turning and hissing at me.
Later in the night I was going to get a drink and passed her, got more hisses, also made a point of running up and swiping my foot with her claws. Also common from her first week. Shes still hissing at me currently to if we cross paths.
Finally at the end of the night I went to clean her litter box, and right on the top of the litter was some unburied feces. Feces that also looked a little less solid than her normal ones.
I dont know when she did it, so I dont know if it was pre or post sit.
What I'm trying to figure out is,
1) should I be concerned about the feces?
2) are there any other ways to make sure shes ok/signs I need to look for about her being hurt?
3) given her history of abuse, how long is she likely to be wary of me/how to regain her trust?
