Let me preface this by saying I have never had a cat in my life. I am feeling extremely guilty and negligent for what I've done, but want to make it better.
My girlfriend fostered a cat 2 days ago. This cat has been spooked since it came into our apartment. For the past 48 hours it sat in the bathtub and didn't move. It purred and ate a little bit after we pet it for about 10 minutes, but still wouldn't leave the bathtub.
Last night, I was up playing video games and had the patio door next to me cracked for some air. I forgot to close it before I went to sleep. As you can guess: woke up in the morning; cat is gone. We turned the room inside out and can't find him. The only way off the patio is a ~15ft drop down to concrete. Could the cat have managed that? Is he somewhere in the apartment? What do I do to increase my chances of finding a cat that doesn't know me and I don't know it?
