I was at the park today and some child asked to pet my dog. I'm not really good with children, so I just said my dog doesn't like kids. But she approached my dog anyways and tried to pet him and he growled at her. He started barking and she cried and ran away to her dad who did NOTHING. 10 minutes later she's running around the park and looking at my dog and trying to engage so he runs to bark at her and she flees and falls on the ground and starts bleeding. My dog was on a retractable leash this whole time btw. I pulled him back before he could do anything serious to the child and her dad just smiled picked up his kid and left. Next thing I know two cop cars are DRIVING ON A FIELD and when they get out of the car one of them tried to talk to me and I was super rude because I didn't actually think they were there for me. She asked if my dog bit the child, and I laughed. Because my dog is 14 years old, 17 pounds, and has NO TEETH ????? Like? Are is she STUPID? Anyways they ask for proof of rabies and I give it to them. They ask some questions. My best friend was with me and she had to give a witness report... yes a WITNESS REPORT, and she said the dog didn't even touch her. However after I left the cops showed up to my house and explained that the girl was bleeding so they have to impound my dog. They took my dog away handed me a written witness report and said I have the right to remain silent. Then they drove to my best friends house and did the same thing. My dog is REALLY old and REALLY small and REALLY timid so I'm incredibly stressed out right now. Can I sue this family for wrongly accusing my dog and pay for the impound fee? Because one he gets there I'm hoping they look at him and realize he has no teeth.... so he can't bite anyone.... also why did the cops believe the stupid white suburban parents over me? Is it because they're child was bleeding? Because the cop that questioned me did look convinced. She was like do you have another dog with you? She didn't even see my dog at first because that's how small he is. My best friend and I both have to write witness reports by tomorrow and I'm about to fail my midterm. Someone please help! So much time was wasted today for me.
TL ; DR my old teeth-less dog charged at a child today and her parents accused my dog of biting her even though it's very clear he has no teeth. And two witnesses have said he didn't go near her.
