So, I’m planning to bring my childhood dog to live me with me soon. He’s generally been an indoor dog at my parent’s house, and I’m wanting to change that because I’ve heard that it’s better for dogs to get out more. He’s pretty old now (Yorkie, 11 years old, 7 pounds, neutered) and just got the majority of his teeth removed in a surgery not too long ago. Since I haven’t had to care for him myself before, I’d really love if anyone could give me some advice on the following questions:
What meds does he need? He used to take some kind of tick and heartworm medication but it’s been SO long that I don’t know what he needs or what brands to buy. One of them might have been Frontline? Does he need more than a tick and heartworm med?
He’s apparently been having trouble digesting his food because of the tooth removal. Is there a specifically good brand of soft food?
And, honestly, I want to know if this change in routine is a really bad idea for him. Since he is getting older, would it just be better to let him stay where he is with my parents instead of shaking up his environment? He’s been an indoor dog, so is transitioning him to going outside more bad? He’s never really interacted with other dogs much before, so will socializing him now be bad? I thought that this change might be good for him in the long run but I’m not sure how long long is and I’m really nervous that that change will stress him out and make his health decline or something. All I want is for my dog to be happy :(
