Kitten will NOT use the litterbox

I got my kiddos a 10-week old kitten 2 days ago. As soon as I brought him in, I put him in the litterbox. He didn't have an accident for the better half of the day. He then started having accidents, both pee and poop. I have put him in his litterbox AT LEAST 40 times in the past 2 days, no exaggeration. He just hops right back out. Every time I find a poop, I get it up, put it in his litterbox, and put him in right after. He peed on the litterbox mat, and I did the same thing with that.

I'm just unsure of what to do. I know some cats will not use the litterbox if it's near their food, but every cat I've ever had has been fine with it right off the bat. He even pooped on a mop about 2 ft away from his food bowl and has peed on the littermat which is about 4 ft from his food bowl.

I've caught him in the act twice. One time about to pee and one time about to poop. I quickly snatched him up before it could hit the ground and put him in his litterbox. He used it, and jumped out. I did notice that he didn't try to cover it up. The only time he "digs" is after he drinks or eats. He will turn away from his bowls and scrape the hardwood floor. Every time I put him in his litterbox, I gently take his paw and show him how to dig. Doesn't work.

I have some scented and clumping fresh step in his litterbox, which is what I've always used. Maybe I just need to try different litter. I bought some Fresh Step litter attractant stuff that should be delivered Saturday. Maybe that will work? I don't know, I'm at a loss.

Also, I have noticed a small trace of what looks like blood in his poop whenever I clean it up. He has a vet appointment next week, so maybe he has an underlying condition that's causing him not to use his litterbox.
