My cat got catheterized and I'm worried about complications

So my 1 year old cat had a urinary blockage. Vet said it was due to some crystals forming in his urinary tract.

We left him for a couple of hours at the vet's, who catheterized him and made some tests. I felt strange after he explained what we should do afterwards because it really didn't seem sanitary.

He basically attached an open catheter and said the cat will leak pee and blood everywhere for the next few days. We'll have to bring him back to remove the catheter 4 days afterwards.

I got worried about the possibility of infection because we can't really bathe him in that condition. He tries to lick the catheter area pretty much 80% of the time but he can't due to the neck cone, but both the cone rubs on the catheter and the cat tries to move it with his paws.

Another thing that worries me is that we were told to flush the catheter with "water" if it gets blocked. He gave us a pipette for that. So what, do I just get tap water in there and it'd be okay?

He's on the third day with his catheter now. His pee still looks darkish (blood I assume). Hoping nothing gets infected.

Edit: typo
