So I figured I'd ask this here since it's been bugging me for the last few days.
So my cat isn't quite a longhair, about 10-11 years old or so, overweight and such. He's always had a problem with not reaching behind him to groom his backside so it's got some mats, and since Covid started I haven't been able to get him to a groomer to get it resolved. (No transportation and I don't think anyone around here does house calls) I'm brushing him best as I can, and might order some clippers to try to get them out. (Carefully...I obviously don't wanna hurt him)
My issue is that lately I feel like he's drinking more water than usual, but I'm actually not sure. It's the middle of summer here, and it gets to 100 F out here. I tend to keep my AC at about 70 degrees, but of course it's not going to be perfectly 70 degrees in here.
Normally I get to his water dish when it's about halfway down, and fill it the rest of the way, usually doing it twice a day, once before work, once when coming home. I've been having to occasionally do it a third time during the day when I'm home, it's usually about... a glass and a half per day. I've noticed him going to the water bowl a bit more often but I don't know if it's -really- more often, or if I'm just now noticing it.
Basically, I can't figure out if this is a warning sign for something more serious or if it's just summer heat combined with his coat making him hot. I've checked him for dehydration and his skin is fine, eyes aren't sunken, gums look fine. And looking at symptoms for diabetes, he's not showing any other symptoms, except drinking a bit more water than normal. He still runs around (he gets the zoomies after he uses his box sometimes), he'll play, jump up on stuff, nothing wrong in his stool or urine, he's not splashing the water around or seeking out other water sources, he's not losing weight or eating more or less...
Am I overthinking this and he's just drinking more because it's hot? I'm primarily worried for his health and because a vet cost right now would really hit my already hurt wallet pretty hard.
