Help! My sweet, loving boy that followed me everywhere and slept with my every night is pulling away and I don’t know how to make him love me again, lol. There’s been a lot of change - I got him in graduate school last year at 6 months old when I was living in an apartment with my roommates, but because of corona we moved back home to live with my parents and two younger brothers who also were home from school. He was relatively the same - still slept with me every night, was super playful, and still followed me. After a couple months, however, he stopped sleeping with me at night and following me around. He still would sleep with me occasionally but not like before. Then, because of COVID boredom and feeling a desire to help my community, I became a foster mom to four kittens. He is the friendliest boy and was happy to have some playmates, but I noticed he changed even more. He stopped being playful with us and only played with one kitten (the kitten my mom adopted from me so she was free to roam around the house while the others were contained in a room). He completely stopped sleeping in my bed and only occasionally slept in his cat tree in my room.
Those kittens were adopted and I brought in two more. Again, same deal. Except now I absolutely fell in love with one of the kittens and really want to adopt her, but I’m feeling extremely selfish. I know cats become more distant when they have another cat to play with, so that may explain why he’s more reserved, but I just want my cuddly, sweet baby back. We are moving back to graduate school this month and I was hoping that being alone with me in the apartment will make him be more like his old self again, but now that I am thinking about adopting this kitten I am scared that he will be upset with me and still remain avoidant.
Any advice? Thank you. (Also, he’s almost 1.5 years old)
