I've had pets most of my life. I'm 32 now and recently my girlfriends dog passed away it it broke my heart. I've usually always been a cat person but that dog was the first I fell in love with and I miss her completely.
For the last couple of weeks I've been considering adopting a cat. Every day I talk myself out of it because of the fact that I live in a 1 room studio apartment.
Lots of people in Korea do have house cats in small spaces but I have some concerns.
Will it make me and my home smell? Some people smell of cat and their homes smell of cat and it isn't pleasant at all.
Will the cat get stressed if left for 24 hours? Sometimes I'm away for a full 24 hours at a time and I can't be sure there would always be someone to take care of the cat for me.
I've raised a few cats in my life back in England but they would spend most of their time outside.
I'm particularly interested in picking up a cat from a kill shelter or one that has been abandoned. Here in Korea people prefer to pay a lot of money for their pets and buy purebreeds but the dog we had that recently passed was a beautiful mut and I want to give some love to the unwanted.
If you for any reason think I shouldn't own a cat, I won't. I do love animals and treat them (too) well but I'm worried that my current living situation might not be suitable for pet ownership.
Thanks guys!
