Hundreds of thousand of neonatal (under 8 weeks) kittens are euthanized very year in shelters. With advocacy and education, we can fix this.
-
THE ISSUE: Most shelters do not have programs available to provide the 24/7 care these kittens need to survive. Caring for neonatal kittens not only requires specialized knowledge but large amounts of time. Furthermore, using up cage space for one animal for up to 8 weeks just isn’t practical for many shelters.

a note on “KILL” SHELTERS - A large obstacle that stands in the way of lowering these euthanasia rates is the public’s overall negative view of ‘kill’ shelters. It is important to understand that private shelters (while magnificently important) can turn away any cats they do not have the room for. They have set budgets and make sure not to overwhelm their sources. On the other hand, ‘kill shelters’ cannot turn any animal away. As a result, they are often forced to euthanize animals to free up resources, time, and space.

HOW TO HELP: Advocate for your local shelters. Especially kill shelters. Dnate food, mney or your time. Adopt from kill shelters. Spay your cats. Consider fostering kittens if you are able. Join kitten transport teams or Tnvr teams (trap neuter vaccinate release). Work with local shelters to advocate for at risk cats through social media. But most importantly, spread the word and create awareness. With awareness comes change, and humanity always steps up.
