Good Pet to cope with trauma?

So I recently went through a miscarriage, and it was recommend to me that I get a baby animal to help. ( not to replace the baby I lost, just something to keep me busy and to love). My boyfriend has three large Great Danes (smallest is 160 lbs, largest is a 180lb service dog)He told me when I first moved in that I could have a pet if I could get a doctors note. That was before my miscarriage. I was away for a few days because of an argument, and ended up losing the baby. When I got back he told me that he’s getting a new Dane because his service dog is really old. He’s also not very good with emotions, so he doesn’t understand why I’m still sad over the miscarriage (it was last week). How should I bring up to him that I’m hurting very badly and my doctor thinks a pet would help. I’m just terrified he’ll say no, because I’m not going well at all, and I think it would help a lot.
