I’m not sure what to do with my senior dog

I have a 14 year old beagle mix. She’s the sweetest thing. Had her since she was a puppy. Recently this year she was diagnosed with heart failure. It was mangeable for sometime but now the vet bills are adding up and I have to move.

I was originally prepared to rent another house but the cost of living in my area has skyrocketed. I unfortunately can’t really afford renting a house and paying for her vet bills without putting myself into an unstable situation. All the apartments I’ve looked and applied at have a strict pet limit. We have two other smaller dogs.

Even if I could find an apartment that would allow a third animal, I work two jobs and will not be as home as much to give her medication and the attention she needs.

She’s more stationary nowadays. Doesn’t play as often. When we take her outside she usually sleeps. She only is active and lively when we give her treats. When she does sleep, she shudders and sometimes looks like she’s in pain.

I originally thought of rehoming her. Coupled with her ailment and age, I don’t think that’s feasible. I spoke with a vet who told me rehoming her would probably put more stress on her heart.

I know her condition will only get worse. A friend of mine who used to work at a rescue suggested putting her to sleep may be for the best.

This dog is my baby girl. I’ve asked friends and family and no one has been able to take her. I’ve been searching for homes to rent for two months and haven’t found anything within my price range. I even contacted a beagle rescue who told me they couldn’t take her.

I want to do right by her. What would be the most humane and fairest route to take for her?
