Question about ear-tipping (cats)

I'm interested in adopting a cat from a rescue and noticed it was ear-tipped. They explained that they caught her in one of their TNR traps and proceeded to ear-tip her after spaying as is normal procedure, however realized afterwards that she was in fact very friendly and not a feral cat! So they took her in and are now offering her for adoption. She is a very cute cat and I would love to adopt her, but I'm curious if this is a red flag about the rescue? Is it common to ear-tip during a TNR then realize afterwards the cat is not actually feral, or is this a sign of questionable skills/qualifications of the rescue?

They seemed to be quite on top of everything else (vaccines, microchipped, monthly flea prevention, etc.) so I'm hoping this is just an understandable mistake during TNR!
