Would it be unethical to have our 4 cats in a 1000 sq ft apartment?

Basically exactly what it sounds like. My bf has a cat, my new roommate has two cats, and I have a cat that has been staying with my mom until this point. My cat is very lovable and affectionate compared to my mom’s high strung kitty, so I made it clear from day 1 that it was my cat and not hers.

Now that I’m moving into my new place, my mom keeps making me feel that the 1000 sq ft apartment would not be enough space for our 4 cats. I really don’t know if it’s her trying to keep my cat (something she has been hinting at since my cat has been staying with her), or if having all of our cats at the apartment is actually unethical.

Cats are 13lb male (somewhat active), 15 lb female (not very active, 9lb female (somewhat active also my cat), and 9 lb male (not active). Apartment has many windows and we treat our cats very, very well.
