I work at a doggie daycare which also provides housing for a great Dane rescue organization in the area.
We currently have a big white Dane with us who's a big blue eyed sweetheart of a puppy who's also completely deaf. Behavior wise, he's perfectly okay - doesn't jump up on people, isn't overly aggressive in play, ect.
We really think he could benefit from learning basic commands, but given that he's deaf, it's rather difficult to get him to see what we want him to do. Coming when called would be a good one, as right now he thinks us coming up with a leash means it's chase time. He doesn't come inside unless he wants to.
Sit, lie down, all of that would be good as well. He's essentially been allowed to do what he wants, mainly because we can't really verbally communicate with him. He's still incredibly sweet and good tempered, and I've spammed him all over my Facebook page to see if anyone wants a horse sized puppy. More people-motivated and play focused than food motivated.
Do you guys know of any resources, or videos I could watch to try giving it a shot? Most of what I've found doesn't seem to go into showing a dog what to do for specific hand signals, and more articles seem to just go into teaching dogs that can already hear before they go deaf.
