Cat poops in the sink

Literally, if we're gone too long.. Poops in the bathroom sink. If he wants to be outside but the weather's bad.. Poops in the sink. Doesn't like how the litter box smells? Poops in the sink. I tried calming collars but I don't believe that made any difference. I've tried letting him out even when the weather's bad but he just begs to come in but then poops In the sink later because he didn't get to go outside. I let him run in the basement and then come back upstairs and sometimes he will still do it. I have no idea what to do.. I haven't met anyone with such a weird reoccurring problem. It's not every day, it's about every 2 weeks. So it's hard to predict. He seems to get stressed any change so changing anything will only worsen the problem. He's been doing it since he was a kitten. My boyfriend says he's never allowed back in the house after this morning because he did it again. I obviously can't rehome him.. He Will do this to someone else then, but I don't know other options. I live in a small apartment I have no room for a second litter box, and the only place I have room for the litter box is where it's at now in the bathroom. He did this before I moved to the small apartment as well and I Couldn't fix it unless I closed the door to the room he was pooping in, but then he switched to a different sink. (it's always the sink!) I'm usually good about keep the litter box clean, he's treated for fleas, and cleaning with bleach doesn't keep him from going in the same sink. It's all behavioral I think. How do I teach him not to? We've tried tape on the sink, spraying him with water and showing him the poop, cleaning it up and then having him see the clean spot, the calming collars, trying to keep him exercised and entertained so he doesn't get anxious. I'm all out of ideas.
