Friend found stray cat they can't keep - Advice?

in the most concise terms, i already have a cat so this whole thing is coming down to a cost/benefit:

if they don't get along it's an automatic no, but if they do, at the cost of twice the food, litter, and vet bills i'd need to spent a lot less of my time keeping them stimulated.

if you want to look at it morally, keeping the new one out of a shelter is good too.

is it worth it?

my cat now keeps me busy, and can get pretty irritating at times, so if there's twice the misbehavior i'm not so sure.

my cat is around a year old but probably a little younger, i've read a few things saying cats from different litters are rarely compatible.

i don't know whether the new cat is spayed or vaccinated, so that probably warrants a vet visit.

main questions:

is a first step to invite my friend/the new cat over and see how they interact, or should i ask my friend to take care of the vet visit first to make sure they're not carrying anything communicable?

given that i'm about at my limit with one cat, will two make the collective burden double, or decrease since they'll keep each other busy
