Okay redditers i need help. We have a cat that is around three that we have had since she was 8 weeks old and a dog we got from a rescue yesterday the dog is a bulldog terrier mix. The dog is amazing with the kids and already house broke. We have her on a two week trial to make sure that she can get along with the cat. So far no luck. We tried having the cat in her travel crate and let them sniff through the cage but after a few seconds the dog thought she might be a chew toy and instinct took over. After that we kept them separate for the rest of the day. We tried again this morning. My wife brought the cat out in her crate and i held on to the dogs collar we waited until everyone was calm and then let the cat out to walk around while i held on to the dog. Everytime the dog would lunge or growl my wife would shoot her with the spray bottle. We did that for a while and then put the cat back in my daughters room with her food water and litter box and we were planning on doing that again until it works. Are we doing it right? Does any one know a better way? And given the age of the animals is it even possible? We only have two weeks to get it done if not we have to take the dog back as the cat was here first. Doing that would break my little girls heart. Please help.
