I have had a lot of male dogs who even though were very well trained hunting dogs would want to run off and did sometimes. I have a female dog with a bit less training that has never tried to run away. Has anyone else had that experience where the males want to run off more than the females do?

All of the male dogs I had were trained very well as hunting dogs. More so with the first dog than any dog I have had since. That first one never tried running off. The rest of the males I have had up to this point tried a few times. All of the males were neutered early on in life, so not having them neutered didn't play any part in it. As far as the female dog I have at this point, she is over the age of two, is not spayed, has been through heat more than once and has never once tried to run off. She won't go over a few yards away from me unless I send her out to retrieve or tell her the command to sit or lay down and walk off. She will quickly come to where I am if given the command that allows her to get up and move around freely or is told to come. She also comes back to me quickly once she has the thing I sent her out to retrieve unless told otherwise. If I go out of her sight, she always comes close to where I am at to keep me in her sight unless told otherwise. Is it that females tend to stay closer to you than the males or is it that this specific female stays close unless told otherwise ?
