Hello everyone, I’m having trouble with my two kittens. They are 6 and 9 months old. The younger one is Pepsi and the older one is Pepperoni. They get along in the sense that they eat together with no aggression and sleep near each other or sometimes cuddle each other The problem is the Pepperoni is a ball of energy. It’s incredibly difficult to tire him out. For example when playing with a stick and feather he will go crazy chasing it, will play until he has to stop and is panting and then less than a minute later he’s back at it.
A lot of times he’ll try to play with the Pepsi. When they were first introduced Pepperoni was still kinda rough/dominant but Pepsi till initiated and they took turns. Lately it seems that Pepperoni always initiates it. He clamps onto Pepsi’s scruff and Pepsi just sits there doing this low kinda cry. He rarely tries to get the dominant position. No matter how many times Pepsi runs away, ending the play, Pepperoni just doesn’t seem to get the message to stop being so rough. Pepperoni will also groom Pepsi aggressively. I’ve also noticed Pepsi will not play with things like the string and feathers if Pepperoni is around because Pepperoni just goes crazy and doesn’t watch where he’s going and always ends up running into Pepsi.
Everything I looked up says they’ll work it out and Pepperoni will just learn to be less aggressive. It’s been about 3 months now and that doesn’t seem to be the case. I don’t think they’re fighting because there’s no hissing, loud crying, and never any injuries from their encounters. Is there anything I can do to teach Pepperoni to play less rough with Pepsi? Or is this a non-issue and normal behavior? I’ve never had cats before and I also can’t find a video of the noise Pepsi makes when he’s so I’m not sure it’s normal. It’s like a cross between and chirp and a meow and low in volume.
