Help!!!
My dog is 2yoF neutered and usually very quiet and well tempered. We go to the dog park regularly and sometimes she’s social and playful and sometimes she’s not interested, but she’s never aggressive. What I mean to say is that she’s socialized normally. There’s been 3 instances in the last 2-3 months where she’s gotten into a fight with another dog that she was previously friends with. In each instance she was spending all day or night with this other dog either in our own home or in the other dogs home. In each instance the dogs were playing and living together fine until suddenly something sets her off and they start attacking each other. But I’ve never been in the room to witness it. It’s always the other dog owner that has to pull them apart and by the time I get there it’s over. I say that something sets her off because this keeps happening so I’m assuming she’s the instigator. Every time the person that witnesses it says, I have no idea what happened or who started it or what it was about. But once the start fights usually the other dog owner goes to pull away their own dog and Rosie (my dog) keeps attacking. Each time I think she gets annoyed with the other dog (eating her food, taking her toys, or wanting to play when she’s not interested) but I’m not really sure why she suddenly snaps.
There have been other dogs that she’s spent 24+ hours with and hasn’t fought with. Today she got bit and her ear was bleeding and she was pretty scared. (I think she picked a fight and lost). She ran to me with her tail between her legs, ears back and head down. I’m hoping she learned her lesson that she’ll get beat up if she fights.
What’s going on and how do I respond? How do I train her to not be aggressive?!
