Looking for advise on fitting a cat flap in a thick wall.

I've fit a flap before for the cat in a thin wall which the cat would have been able to have front legs outside and back legs inside. Now in a different home with walls about 400mm thick. Is the cat likely to go through such a long "tunnel" or would a larger opening be required in this instance. Thanks
