My cat is constantly crying, and I don't know what to do.

I adopted a 6-month-old kitten a few months ago. Up until about two months ago she was always a shy, quiet cat. Now, she constantly cries at me and makes noise all night long. I haven't gotten a full nights sleep in a long time, and the constant whining is beginning to cause a lot of anxiety for me.

A bit more context on the situation: I live alone, and am gone from 8-5 on weekdays for work. I feed her one full can of wet food per day, half in the morning and half before bed. She also has dry food that she eats during the day and night. Her litter is cleaned out twice per day, and I have never seen her have any trouble with going to the bathroom.

We play every morning before work and for at least 30 minutes every night before bed. I give her lots of attention and petting. She also has toys that she entertains herself with during the day/night.

I have also ruled out illness, as she got a clean bill of health by the vet.

The crying happens all the time but especially when I'm standing up or walking around. I've tried increasing her play time as well as her food amount, but neither works. My bedroom does not have a door, so she can come and go as she pleases, but she absolutely will not step foot in the bedroom. She stands in the hall outside and cries most of the night. If I try to bring her in, she runs away.

I don't want it to come to this, but because of my stress levels I have considered trying to find a better home for her that has a buddy she can play with or with someone who is home during the day.

Can anyone provide any insight as to what might be causing the constant crying and what I could do to calm her down?
