Hi I adopted a ~2 year old cat nearly 1 week ago, my partner is an experienced cat owner (though never adopted) and I have never owned a cat.
We was advised that she was living with an old lady with 5 other cats and when that old lady died she got sent to the cattery, my husband set up a hidy hole for her (it's a shelf in an old desk) and we set everything up in our spare room, following the advice that we should give her a safe room, and she ran straight for the hidy hole has hasn't left since. She eats and uses her litter box when she is sure we aren't around, and she let's us stroke her in her hole while she purrs and rolls around but she won't leave her hole :(
I know online it says it can take up to a month for a new cat to settle but my main worry is we have to take her for injection in 2 weeks and I don't want to go back to square one, so mainly I am asking is there anything we can do to help calm her? I will try anything
P. S we tried to plug in feliway but she seemed more on edge so I unplugged it
Tldr - how do we get our new cat to be confident
