My 8 mos. old cat has started overgrooming (to the point of chewing occasionally) the area around the base of his tail. He's been to the vet, other possible issues (fleas, food intolerance, etc) have been ruled out and we've determined it's behavioral. He's blind, but he's been blind since he was three weeks old, so it's not like that's anything new to him. We've had him since he was 8 weeks old, and he gets along relatively well with the cat we already had (he gets annoyed when the older cat lays on his spot on the couch, but he gets his way pretty quickly ). I introduced wet food into his diet at the recommendation of the vet, thinking that maybe he was fed up with the dry food (he would get distracted and wander off, so the other cat would finish off his leftovers). I've tried leaving some of my worn clothing in his bed and his couch spot in case he's having some separation anxiety. There's nothing new in his environment, nothing has changed, nothing has moved. We've started feeding them at the same time (or as close to the same time as we can get, as working college students) in hopes that more regularity would help.
Other than the overgrooming, there isn't any indication that's he's stressed. Has anyone dealt with this before/have any tips for reducing his stress? Has anyone been able to get their cat to stop overgrooming?
