I am looking for any advice or encouragement as my cat’s disappearance is breaking our hearts.
My barely one year old cat slipped out six days ago and hasn’t come home. It’s happened before a couple of times and he’s always come back. He was wearing a breakaway collar with our address and number on the tag and he is chipped. We’ve listed him on multiple Facebook missing animal groups repeatedly, posted flyers all over our neighborhood, and gone door to door handing them out. We’ve walked the neighborhood at night using a cat can opener sound. We’ve been in other people’s backyards and on our hands and knees checking under sheds and decks. It snowed and I’ve been following tracks in the snow, but it appears to only be other house cats in the neighborhood. We tried putting the litter box out but took it back in after I read some research that it can lure territorial cats and scare off my cat. I emptied the vacuum contents outside in hopes he’d smell it. I’ve done laundry and had a fire in our fireplace every day because those are common smells of our home that go outside. I hung some of my dirty laundry outside. I’ve walked the neighborhood at two AM and also sat in my car like I’m on a stakeout. So far we’ve gotten leads about two other cats that aren’t our cat. We have a motion camera outside where we leave heated tuna and catnip and so far our kitty hasn’t shown up even once. He’s not shown up at the local animal shelter either.
We are so sad. If you know of anything I should be doing or should stop doing or have your own story, please share it. Thanks internet world!
