HELP!!!!! My roommate has a 2 year old dog that is not housebroken.
Background:
She adopted it when it was just over a year old, and its original owners trained it on pee pads (I think it thinks every rug in the apartment is a pee pad). She refuses to crate train it because of its separation anxiety, so instead it has free reign of the kitchen all day long. For its anxiety, she leaves the lights on and plays music all day. Most days of the week, I come home to poop or pee or both in the kitchen. It has access to a dog door where it can go outside, but it never does. Also, it goes on the patio, which renders that area unusable until my roommate cleans it up (which she does maybe 1x/week). Sometimes she will leave in the morning without taking the dog out to do its business, and then it DEFINITELY goes in the apartment. Also, she leaves food out all day for it, and I have a hunch that's adding to the dog's need to poop.
What do I do? How do I politely suggest ways to train the dog? Do I take training into my own hands? We both work at offices all day long, so nobody is here to watch the dog and catch it when it goes. Thank you for the help!
