Hi y'all, new to the sub. Prepare for a somewhat-rant, TLDR at the bottom. I'd appreciate some advice on the following:
I live in the same apartment as my grandmother and cousin. My cousin owns two pit bulls, but is never home, leaving myself and my grandmother to take care of them. These two, 5yo female (Rose) and 3yo male (Toby, her son), aren't exactly well behaved. The younger one, Toby, has plenty of medical issues, though we aren't even sure what they are, seeing as his owner won't take him to the vet. Lots of lesions, patches of missing fur, red paw pads, and peeing... a lot. About every 3 hours. I can't keep up, I have my own life, so he has accidents in the house on almost a daily basis. Rose, the older one, is fairly aggressive towards people she doesn't know, and dogs she doesn't know... it gets to be fairly difficult to have people over, even if you ignore the piss and shit smell. Oh yeah, didn't mention. Rose will also shit in the house, to go with her son. My grandma has brought up multiple times that Toby needs the vet, but the cousin will just brush it off, so it just gets worse and worse... As for the housing, they've got very little space to move around in and exercise. Not much in the way of toys either, so they just lay around, looking depressed all the time. Even if they aren't sleeping, they just lay on the floor, sad.
Anyways, context out of the way. I've been looking into pit bull rescues. Seeing as how my cousin (their owner) refuses to actually take responsibility for them, he probably shouldn't own them. Does this seem right? Is this even the right sub?
If y'all need anymore info, just lemme know and I'll respond/edit this.
TLDR: I help to take care of pitbulls that aren't even mine, and are neglected still. Should I bother looking into surrendering them somewhere?
