Could my cat's murmur be from stress?

I've read that cats can develop temporary heart murmurs due to extreme stress.

Wuzzy has been documented with one at both his visits so far to the vet and they're suggesting an echo cardiogram before he's put under for a teeth cleaning. I was wondering if i could somehow record his heart, or if we could do a quick at-home visit in a more comfortable environment if the echo would still be needed? It's hard for me to hear his heartbeat myself because he purrs extremely loudly and at the slightest touch, but I really don't want to spend $500 on a few seconds of electrodes if I can avoid it/stress him out with an unnecessary procedure. But if it'd be a normal pre-anaesthesia procedure i'll obviously do it (he has been neutered so he's been under once at least briefly).

Age: 7yrs 9mos

Weight: 17.4 lbs (working on losing weight, but he's a very large cat and according to the vet his ideal is 13-14lbs)

Prior medical issues: When we first moved, he had to be taken to the ER vet twice, once for refusing to pee for 24 hours after getting to our new apartment, then he had to have an enema 3 days later, so stress is something I REALLY try to avoid with him as much as possible.
