Hey, there! I currently have two cats and a dog and I'm hoping to find a unique solution for the cats' litter box.
So firstly, one of my cats is just huge (a megachonk, if you will). He's not just fat (we're working on that!!), but he's just overall large. For that reason, we've always had issues using covered litter boxes because he's just so damn big. My dog is a corgi, and a smaller one at that, so him and the cat are pretty much the same size.
I've always kept the litter box in the laundry room, and I leave the door open so the cats can come and go as they please. But I can't leave the box on the floor because my dog is gross and likes to fish out the turds. So, I have one of those larger corner-shaped boxes on a small end table from Ikea... low enough so that the cats can get onto it but high enough that the dog can't.
We're moving and I'd like to find a different solution, since that one is pretty messy (they kick up litter all over the place):
-I thought about putting a cat door on the laundry room door and keeping the laundry door close, but the dog can fit in any space the cat can, so that likely won't keep him out.
-I can't use a covered box because the cat is too big.
-We've tried an auto-scoop box - the cats hate it.
-I thought about just making an enclosure out of wood since I can make it as big as I want, but then I still have the same issue as I do with the cat door.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!
