How to get cat to stop behavior?

So long story short, my parents agreed to take my cat because I couldn't afford the pet deposit (lost my job) and didn't want to take her to a shelter since I figured they'd put her down. She's on the older side and has special food/health needs.

In the last year, I have a job, have built up savings. I was planning on taking her back, because In the few years she's lived there, she has become so obese. 19 freaking lbs. They gave her food whenever she wanted. I tried to curtail this, to no avail.

I recently took her back because they were neglecting her and she got an butt infection because of it (plus their house has become so dirty). So, I've been nursing her back to health and dealing with bad habits.

One bad habit is her CONSTANT begging. Like she meows and purrs all the time to that end. Every time I come home, every time I walk past, every time I sit, she'll beg. I feed her the amount that the vet prescribed, which is obviously a strict diet. No treats.

For example, I'll be ignoring her begging, working on emails or whatever and she'll snug with me, then bite me if I don't pay attention and feed her. I don't feed her when she does this, but it's very annoying. I'll grab her by the scruff until she stops, say no very firmly, then shoo her in her spare room for a while until she chills out. It's to the point where I don't trust that she actually wants to hang out or play, because she just always wants food.

Any advice? Am I doing it right?
