My cat (1yo neutered male) got sick a couple weeks ago, and he’s needed to take a pill twice a day since then, which he hates. He won’t take the medicine voluntarily no matter how I try to coax him or hide it, so I had no choice but to hold him still and force him to take the pill. He hates this, and every time once I’m done giving him his meds he runs away and hides, sometimes not coming out until the next morning. He has always been a timid and easily frightened cat, and it’s clear that he’s scared of me. He used to come when I called him and follow me around, now he hides and shakes if I so much as take a step in his direction.
Now that his course of meds is almost finished, is there anything I can do besides giving him time that can help my cat not be so scared of me? I’m worried that I’ve permanently damaged my relationship with my cat and that he might have long term problems trusting me, so any advice about making him feel safe would be much appreciated. :)
