My cat is 3 years old and weighs 8 pounds. I got her from a shelter about a month ago. She was on a dry food diet there so I continued feeding her dry food (Hill’s prescription diet) for a month. The package had instructions to feed 1/3 cup food for a cat of her weight, but since she seemed perpetually hungry, I increased it to half cup, which she was satisfied with for a while.
2 days ago, I started feeding her wet food, which she immediately loved. The instructions for the 3oz cans stated that a cat of her weight should be fed 1.5 to 4 cans per day. So I’ve been feeding her 2 cans, 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening, along with 1/4 cup of kibble which is left for her to free feed on. Even then, she seems perpetually hungry and begs for more food.
However, I’m concerned that I am over feeding her. Ever since she started eating wet food, she started pooping twice a day, instead of her usual once a day poop on dry food. Please help!
TLDR: Changed 9 pound cat’s diet from 1/2 cup kibble to 6oz of wet food along with 1/4 cup dry food. Due to change of diet, she has started pooping twice a day, instead of once. Am I overfeeding her?
