Kitten keeps scratching his swollen eye. How do I stop him?

Hello, first time poster. First time cat owner, too, be advised.

His name is Miguel. Earlier today I noticed one of his eyes looked white when he went to lay down next to me. Upon inspection, his third eyelid was swollen, and the area under the eye too. Here goes a bit of a vent, but skip the paragraph if you'd rather.

Heart attacks and frantic google searches later, tried saline drops (he didn't like that)... a while later it seemed like it was gonna shrink. But then I saw him pawing at it, like he does when he cleans himself, but I see the swollen third eyelid pop out. I freaked out, stopped him, took him on my lap so I could catch him doing it and stop him. It kept getting better then worse, so I took him to the vet. No damage to the vet, but a few minor unrelated issues. Phew.

But still, I can't help but worry about him pawing at it and popping his third eyelid out or something. But how do I stop him?
